Every spring bugs and wildlife start to work their way into your home. Being proactive now can give you the upper hand in preventing an unwanted infestation. Here are a few tips to maintain bug-free home this spring and summer!

Treat Standing Water

Most pests love water! Any water source close to your home can make your property look welcoming. Address any leaks or stagnant water as soon as you can. These areas can become a breeding source for mosquitos and other critters. Gutters should also be cleaned regularly to ensure proper water flow.

Properly Contain Food Sources

While organics programs are a brilliant idea, the bins can attract unwanted friends. Waste, gardens, and pet food all commonly attract insects. Pest experts recommended keeping pet food in a sealed container indoors, while they also suggest putting a fence around your home garden to protect your vegetables.

Seal All Entryways to Your Home

Cracks, holes, and gaps in your home’s foundation make the perfect entrance for creepy crawlies. Caulking can be used for smaller spaces, but a professional should be called for larger problems. Window screens can be a great way to deterrent as well!  No matter how nice the weather, keep all doors closed. Open doors are a huge gateway for pests to infiltrate your home.

Keep Clean

Debris in your yard is a huge welcome sign for pests, too. Ticks, ants, and other insects that sting, love to hideout in these places. This is a problem that we deal with every year at our house – living next to a park has huge pros and cons! Clean all clutter from your yard and don’t miss the space under your deck or porch. If left unchecked, these dark, quiet spaces can become a home for unwanted friends.

An insecticide perimeter treatment serves as a first line of defense around your home, stopping pests before they enter. This type of treatment offers one of the best insecticide defenses against outdoor pests that migrate inside when the evenings are still cool.

Perimeter treatments form a barrier on exterior surfaces – house, exposed foundation, soil and nearby plant material. Typically a perimeter treatment blankets a 3-foot-wide zone in two directions: from the ground up the house wall and from the house wall outward.
