Your June HOMEwork
It’s summertime, and the living is easy – well, almost. With summer just around the corner, June is the month to get your home ready for summer relaxing. Tidy up the garden and finish planting, give your lawn some feeding and weeding and dust off the patio furniture. Here are a few other jobs for your spring to-do list:
- The heat will be here before you know it. If you haven’t already done so, book an appointment to have your central air conditioning system checked and cleaned this month. A clean system will operate more efficiently and save you energy dollars.
- Help your drainage system do its job by making sure your window wells are clear of debris, your downspouts are directed away from your home’s foundation and that eavestroughs are clean and unobstructed. Check for broken hangers and split troughs and have repairs made.
- Give your home’s exterior a bath to clean brickwork, remove dirt and dust from window ledges and shutters and make windows sparkle.
- Give your vinyl siding some routine maintenance to keep it looking good. Use a garden hose with an automobile brush to wipe down the siding once a year. For stubborn stains, mix a third cup of detergent with four quarts of water and scrub with a sponge. Avoid streaks by working from bottom to top and rinsing immediately. Do not use harsh chemicals or brushes which will damage the vinyl.
- If you have home improvement projects in mind, this is the month to get things underway. Call now for quotes on patios, deck repairs and landscaping. The sooner you get things started, the more time you will have to enjoy your new space this summer!
- A roof inspection should be at the top of every homeowner’s checklist this spring, after a harsh and unrelenting winter. Lifted, curling or missing shingles are signs of roof damage. While you’re up there, check out the flashing around vents and chimneys to ensure it is secure.
- If the driveway is looking tatty, this is the month to have repairs made. If you didn’t do it last year, have your asphalt driveway sealed.
