August Homework
August is the perfect time to start crossing some jobs off your fall chore list. The weather is lovely, it’s fun to be outside and your focus is on getting and keeping your home in shape. There is still time to complete outdoor projects, like decks, landscaping, exterior painting…the list goes on.
- Maintenance-free exteriors start with vinyl or aluminum siding. Replacing painted areas with vinyl siding will brighten your home’s façade.
- Summer is the time to give paved surfaces a facelift. If the driveway is in relatively good condition, have minor cracks repaired and protect the surface with a fresh coat of sealant. Older driveways and seriously cracked surfaces will need resurfacing or replacing.
- There is still time this season to tackle some of those landscaping projects you’ve been putting off. Installing and repairing interlocking brick patios and walkways, installing raised garden beds, adding landscape lighting, expanding or replacing an aging wooden deck, giving a tired deck a new finish.
- A fresh coat of paint can transform your home’s exterior while providing protection from the elements.
- Help your air conditioner do its job during the hot days of August. Keep doors and windows closed, drapes drawn and appliance use to a minimum during the hottest time of the day. Keep the indoor temperature about seven degrees cooler than the outdoor temperature for maximum efficiency and comfort.
