Uncover The Natural Beauty of Hardwood

Hardwood and bamboo have become the flooring choices of decorators and homeowners alike. Easier to clean, with a simple aesthetic that suits any decor, more and more homeowners are replacing carpet with unadorned floors. Hardwood – whether it’s bamboo or plank – is one of the hottest trends in home decor and at the top of most prospective homebuyers’ wish lists.

If you are lucky enough to already have hardwood in your home, maybe now is the time to uncover its beauty. Restore worn surfaces or rejuvenate hardwood that has been covered with carpet by having it sanded and refinished.

Here are a few simple maintenance tips to keep your floors beautiful and gleaming for years to come:

  • Generally, the only maintenance required is sweeping with a soft bristle broom or vacuuming with a soft floor attachment.
  • When required, clean floors with a cleaning product recommended by your flooring specialist.
  • Avoid using vinyl or tile floor care products that could cause the floor to become slippery and will dull the finish over time.
  • Never use a wet mop on a wood floor. Not only will standing water dull the finish, it could damage the wood and leave a film.
  • When spills happen, wipe immediately with a damp cloth.
  • Avoid frequent waxing. When the surface appears dull, a good buffing should be all it needs to restore the finish.
  • High heels and sport shoes with cleats can dent and damage the surface of your floor.
  • Place throw rugs on both sides of doorways to prevent grit and debris from being tracked in and scratching the surface of your floor.
  • Put floor glides under heavy furniture. Make sure they are made of soft plastic or fabric.
  • Both engineered and solid hardwood floors are sensitive to changes in humidity. The ideal humidity range is between 30 and 45 per cent.

With a little care and attention, hardwood flooring is an investment that will reward you for years to come with its low-maintenance and timeless beauty.
